Speaking
I started speaking on investing late 2008, just after the height of the debt crises. People were very, very concerned and really wanted to understand what was going on in the markets. So I put together a presentation entitled, "Finding Opportunities in Interesting Times". The talk outlined my belief that boom and bust cycles were inevitable in stocks and in real estate, and that investors must look for the signs of tops and bottoms. Of course, it's extremely difficult to call the exact to or bottom, but the investor only needs to be close to the top or bottom to benefit (rather than suffer) from the cycle.
By early 2010, many thought that we had put the worst behind us. But a debt crisis in Europe, a slowdown in China and regulation in Washington has brought back shades of 2008. My revised talk, "Investing Strategies for the New World Order", focuses on how to manage investments in a world that has structurally and fundamentally changed. We live in a new world order, and that new world requires new strategies and approaches for success.
